LB 819 and LB 889 - Nebraska PDF Print E-mail

Just a quick update on what is going on in Nebraska...

There are two bills in legislature right now. LB 819 is in committee; this will allow CCW holders to purchase guns without a permit-to-purchase license. The other is LB 889, which is being heard in committee next week. This is a Castle Doctrine, allowing people to defend themselves with deadly force in places where they are legally allowed to be, and taking away the right of the criminal and/or the criminals family to sue the person defending themselves in civil court.

I have contacted Senator Gloor (District 35) and asked him to support these bills. Please do your part! Find your representative and his/her contact information at the Nebraska State Legislature's web page.

Nikki Goeser Testifies in Ohio PDF Print E-mail

Almost a year ago, Nikki Goeser witnessed her husband's murder because Tennessee's laws prohibited open and concealed carry of guns for self-defense in restaurants. Tennessee changed its laws thanks largely to her willingness to share her heartbreak. Her goal now is to help others learn from it.

Nikki recently told her story to the Ohio State Legislature in hopes of keeping self-defense available to anyone, anywhere.

Protecting Your Knife Rights! PDF Print E-mail

Knife rights and gun rights both come under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. The Second Amendment refers to “arms,” not guns.  In the Heller decision (which agreed that there is an individual right to keep and bear arms), the U.S. Supreme Court actually referenced the book "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" in arriving at their decision. Just recently the federal government attempted to classify virtually all one-hand-opening knives as switchblades under federal law; fortunately, this effort was legislatively thwarted by the NRA, Knife Rights, American Knife and Tool Institute, Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Unfortunately, New Hampshire has a prohibition against knives that can be misinterpreted in the same way. I have put forward a bill supported by both parties which removes this threat to your right to keep and bear arms, yet at the same time increases the penalty for those who would use knives to commit crimes against people.
