Second Amendment Sisters To Hold Rally in Virginia

On Sunday, May 13, 2001, the Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) will hold a rally supporting the basic human right of self-defense.  The rally will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Capital Square grounds in downtown Richmond, Virginia.

“This year Virginia gun owners saw bills that generated unprecedented attacks upon their right to keep and bear arms,” says Melinda Gierisch, the Second Amendment Sisters Virginia Coordinator.  “These included an effort to create a shell-casing database similar to the one created in Maryland last year, which has effectively removed new pistols from dealers' shelves.  Another bill would have prohibited firearms on school property even for firearm safety education, school-sponsored target shooting matches, and ROTC programs.  A third would have mandated that firearm purchasers receive a trigger lock with their guns despite the fact that 31 of 32 models tested proved ineffective.”

Fortunately these and many other gun control bills failed.  However, the ladies of the SAS, who believe in the basic human right of self-defense, remain vigilant and ready to defend that right.  Many wonderful ladies who believe in that right will address the Mother’s Day rally.  SAS members Laura DiCarlo and Nan Sanders will speak on the civil right of self-defense.  Several courageous ladies who are survivors of violent attacks, including the SAS Northern Virginia Regional Coordinator Tracy Marshall, will tell us their self-defense stories.  We are also happy to welcome Colleen Reed of the Virginia Chapter of the Pink Pistols, and Rachel Kelly, who is featured in the 2001 edition of the G Gordon Liddy “Stacked and Packed” Calendar.
