SECOND AMENDMENT SISTERS REACT TO K-MART DECISION TO STOP SELLING AMMO
Austin, TX –In an unusual move, Kmart company
officials in Troy, Michigan announced on Thursday June 29th that they will
be phasing out their ammunition sales starting immediately.
Kmart spokeswoman Julie Fracker said that the sale of firearms and
ammunition had been under review as part of the merchandising strategy
of the company’s new executive team for some time-this according to cnn.com.
“Obviously we consider ourselves a socially conscious business, but this
was a business decision made in the best interests of the company,” stated
Fracker.
Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) can understand
if it was a business decision, but when Kmart comes out with this “decision”
the day after meeting for four hours with anti-rights people, that claim
is highly suspicious. Three Columbine survivors and filmmaker Michael Moore
met with Kmart executives in Troy on Wednesday.
Kmart lost many gun-owning customers
after they gave into anti-gun groups in December 1999 in New York and decided
not to sell rifles or shotguns at a new store. "The recent "business decision"
by K-Mart to drop ammunition sales proves the purchasing power of gun owners.
It's a shame that this recent kowtowing to anti-self-defense groups will
only alienate the few gun owners who still shop there," stated Juli Bednarzyk,
President of SAS.
According to the cnn.com article, a spokeswoman
for Wal-Mart said there is no plan to stop selling handgun ammunition.
Wal-Mart stores, except for those in Alaska, do not sell handguns but do
carry hunting rifles and related accessories.
To let both Wal-Mart and Kmart know that firearm
owners appreciate Pro Second Amendment companies, SAS has developed “Shopper
Cards” for each store available to download from the SAS website at http://www.2asisters.org/downloads/shoppercards.htm.
These cards can be printed onto blank business cards or onto plain paper
and cut apart. SAS is asking that after shopping at a Pro-Second Amendment
store, and giving that store the “appreciation card”, that you then fill
out the other card to let Kmart know how much you spent at the Pro-Second
Amendment store instead of their store, and then drop it at your local
Kmart on the way home or mail it into them!
