SECOND AMENDMENT SISTERS TO SPEAK AT UNITED NATIONS PROTEST RALLY TO
SUPPORT OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS
Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) will have representatives from their organization
speaking at the UN Protest Rally on Saturday July 14th at the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza
in New York City.
TRT-New York is organizing the Rally, running from 12 noon until 4 p.m.
The United Nations is holding the "Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms
and Light Weapons in All its Aspects" from July 9 - 20 in New York City.
According to FOXnews.com (www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,29154,00.html), two hours
after the conference opened, the United States rejected several elements of the draft
program of action, asked that others be modified and had its own ideas of what
constitutes small arms. The more controversial topics at the gathering include
controls on the manufacturing, transfer and possession of small arms, standardized
export criteria and marking and tracing practices. The United States rejected many
of those hot-button issues, including a proposal that calls for small arms to be
supplied to governments only. (Emphasis ours)
"The United States will not join consensus on a final document that contains
measures contrary to our constitutional right to keep and bear arms," Undersecretary
of State John Bolton told the opening session of the eleven-day U.N. conference.
"The United States believes that the responsible use of firearms is a legitimate
aspect of national life," Bolton said, adding that Washington would not accept any
"measures that would constrain legal trade and legal manufacture of small arms and
light weapons."
The United Nations defines small arms as revolvers and self-loading pistols,
rifles, submachine guns, assault rifles and light machine-guns. Light weapons
include heavy machine-guns, mortars, hand grenades, grenade launchers, portable
anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns and portable missile launchers.
Speaking at the Protest Rally in support of our Second Amendment Rights will be
Rodi Bestider, SAS Lehigh Valley, PA Chapter Coordinator and an immigrant from
Romania. She will relate her experiences growing up in a communist country where gun
ownership (our 2nd Amendment Right) was not allowed, and people disappeared in the
middle of the night for speaking out (our 1st Amendment Right). Also speaking will
be Maria Heil, National Press Coordinator/Spokesperson for SAS and mother of four.
